Create!

My brain has turned to mush since having little Piper. It's not her fault at all, it's just that having the responsibilities of taking care of two little people and two big people has taken its toll on my capacity to process and retain information much past Ellie's current shoe size, the last time I nursed Piper, and what I had for breakfast.

Which explains why, right now, I have an intense need to create. I want to have proof. Something tangible. Something real to prove that I actually accomplished something in what little free time I have.

I ran across this quote from President Dieter F. Uchtdorf again the other day and it really spoke to me:

The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul. No matter our talents, education, backgrounds, or abilities, we each have an inherent wish to create something that did not exist before.
We develop ourselves and others when we take unorganized matter into our hands and mold it into something of beauty.

I know this quote can to relate to many aspects of our lives as women but for me right now it made me realize why I have such an intense need to create something: it's in my nature.

So what do I want to make? Maybe the more appropriate question is: what don't I want to make? You should see my list of bookmarked tutorials and patterns and how-tos. It would make your head spin.

May I share just a few links just to give you an idea?
(I'll spare you the hundreds of knitting patterns I have bookmarked)

  • I made this quilt for Piper in different fabrics and it should be done being quilted in a few weeks. I am so excited to get it bound and washed!
  • I need a small purse for quick runs to the store so I don't have to haul the diaper bag everywhere so I'm going to make the Buttercup Bag and maybe this purse thingy to match
  • This skirt is going to be stinking cute on Ellie. I'm thinking of making a mommy-sized version for me and a mini version for Piper. This shirt too.
  • One can never have too many cute little bags for stuff.
  • Headbands for the grown out mop top I'm sporting these days.
  • Paper doll kit and crayon roll for Ellie for church.
  • Message boxes and notepads for fun little gifts for everyone I know.
  • Fun messy stuff to make with Ellie and her cousins: Slime, Oobleck, Moon Sand, Marbelized Paper.
  • Monograms and silhouettes for Piper and Ellie's room.
  • The Amy Butler Weekender Bag that I have been DYING to make but I know it will take me a year to finish.
  • And this awesomely simple quilt just for the heck of it.
Now, who wants to come over and hold my baby and entertain my three year old for a month while I finish all my projects? Anyone? :)

I will come and hold your babies:-). You are so dang cute and so dang TALENTED. I don't even know how to sew a button. Love all the stuff you have bookmarked. Dan and I have wanted to make oobleck for a while so I'm excited there is a site for it.

I love that quote but I really struggle in the creative department. I feel like I can't create anything...sigh. Maybe one day I will learn how to sew.

LOVE YOUR GUTS!

Great projects. I especially loved the paper doll one. Those are great. I know what you are saying about feeling the need to create. Happens to me all the time.

First off, I love that talk. I wish I had time and your talent. But I must admit I made the crayon holder for a friend and the buttercup purse for myself and love them!! Thanks for posting all those links, you are inspiring me to add to my eternally long list of things to create.

I love that quote- it's just what I needed, because I too have the creativity bug right now. I love your project list- thanks for sharing. Maybe after I get all my projects done, I can do some of those too! If only there were more time in the day! Good luck!
